Biography

Professor Dr. Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman is currently Medical Director and Senior Consultant Physician, An Nur Specialist Hospital in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. He is also Head of Medical Program at the Malaysian Institute of Graduate and Higher Training, Kuala Lumpur. His previous appointments include founding Dean Graduate Studies, Research and Commercialisation ( Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences; CUCMS), Founding Vice President of Research ( CUCMS ), Founding Director Advance Medical and Dental Institute USM and Deputy Dean Research and Post Graduate Studies, School of Medical Sciences, USM.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Sheffield in 1984. His scientific training was done at the Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee , UK , where he obtained his PhD in Cardiovascular Clinical Pharmacology in 1992. His thesis was on the “Role of the RAAS in Cation Metabolism”. Soon after defending his PhD thesis , he passed the membership examinations of both the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and UK, making him one of the pioneering group of clinician- scientist in the country.

His work on the RAAS has earned him several awards including Malaysian High Commissioners Award on Academic Excellence in 1992 and the National Young Scientist Award in 1994 and Fellowships award from Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science ( 1994 and 1996 ), Japan International Cooperation Agency ( 1999 ) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities ( 2000 ). He is involved in many expert committees nationally and internationally on cardiovascular medicine, sits on several editorial boards , had supervised more than 20 PhD and MSc theses and published close to 100 full manuscripts in his area of interest. He chairs and is a member of several Clinical Practice Guideline ( CPGs ) Committees which are authored to guide doctors on how to manage patients utilising the most current scientific evidence .
