Oral Health and Diabetes: A Critical Partnership in Patient Care

Biography

Served in the Ministry of Health as a Dental Officer before beginning her academic career at the UKM in 1999; she is now an Associate Professor and Consultant in Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry UKM. Previously appointed as the Programme Coordinator for UKM Doctor in Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology) [2014-2020], Head of Department [2004-2008, 2014-2015] and Deputy Dean (Postgraduate, Research, International & Industrial Relations) [2015-2017]. She is actively involved in dental research and was previously the President of the Malaysian Section International Association for Dental Research (IADR). Her research interests include Drug Discovery for Dental Therapeutics (antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory), Oral Health Promotion and Literacy, Teledentistry and Oral Health Management Systems, and Dental Education. Presently involved in collaborative research initiatives with various institutions and industries, including the discovery of selected local herbs with therapeutic potential for managing dental diseases, particularly periodontitis and working on the clinical as well as public health aspects of periodontal disease and non-communicable diseases management, oral health literacy, and dental education research.
