Biography

Dr. Salisu Isma’il, born on 25th February 1974 in Jahun, Jigawa State, is a renowned figure in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. He’s a proud Nigerian with his roots in Jigawa State. Fluent in English, Hausa, and Arabic, Dr. Isma’il’s thirst for knowledge is apparent in his comprehensive academic and professional qualifications.

Hailing from a humble background in Jigawa State, Dr. Isma’il’s educational journey began at Jahun Gabas Primary School, culminating in a Certificate of Primary Education in 1987. His academic pursuits led him through various institutions, ultimately earning him a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB, BS) from Bayero University Kano in 2006.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Isma’il furthered his studies and training in various medical institutions, both locally and internationally. Some notable milestones include a Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery from Madras Medical Mission, Chennai, India in 2013, and a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the West African College of Surgeons in 2015. Additionally, his drive to diversify his skill set led him to obtain a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Madras, India, in 2014, as well as a Professional Diploma in Education from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 2022.

Dr. Isma’il has an illustrious career history, having served in multiple prestigious institutions across Nigeria. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Surgery at the College of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, Federal University Dutse, Nigeria. Concurrently, he serves as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Head of the Department of Surgery at Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse.

His experience spans several teaching hospitals, where he undertook roles of increasing responsibility, from his early days as a Pre-Registration House Officer at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, in 2006 to his tenure as a Senior Registrar at the same institution and later at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja Lagos.

Dr. Isma’il’s expertise as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon is highly sought after, evident from his multiple visiting surgeon roles at several renowned hospitals, including the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, and the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Bauchi State.
