Introduction
Jason Yeo currently serves as the head of Public Health for UNHCR Malaysia, where he spearheads critical initiatives to ensure inclusive healthcare access for refugees and asylum-seekers throughout the country. A graduate of Universiti Putra Malaysia with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Community Health, Yeo has dedicated a decade of his career to UNHCR's humanitarian mission.
In his leadership role, Yeo chairs the coordination mechanism for health and mental health services, fostering crucial partnerships between the Ministry of Health, NGOs, and community-based organizations. His collaborative approach has been instrumental in developing comprehensive healthcare solutions for refugee populations through strategic partnerships with various stakeholders.
Academic engagement forms a significant part of Yeo's work, as he collaborates with educational institutions on two primary fronts: developing ethical frameworks for research involving marginalized populations and creating health education modules for refugee children. He has also played a pivotal role in UNHCR's research initiatives, particularly in leading the healthcare access and utilisation survey (HAUS).
Drawing from his diverse background, Yeo brings valuable expertise in nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, and HIV to his current position. His multifaceted experience enables him to address the complex health challenges faced by refugee communities in Malaysia, while working towards sustainable solutions for improved healthcare access and delivery.
