Introduction
Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan is a 67-year-old grandmother working as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A graduate of the University of Tasmania, Australia, she has over forty years of clinical experience. Her involvement in medical humanitarian missions began in 1999 with a mission to Kosovo, and has since included missions to the Moluccas Islands, Aceh post-tsunami, Afghanistan, Gaza, Syria, and Cox Bazar (Bangladesh). In September 2016, she participated as the doctor on Women's Boat to Gaza, aiming to break the blockade. Her most recent mission was an attempt to break the siege of Gaza via sea in April 2024 with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
Dr Fauziah serves as an advisor to Rose2Rose, an agency under Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE), where she is also a Board of Trustees member. She has participated as a guest educator on Peaceboat voyages and is a founder and council member of Khadijah International Waqf (L) Foundation. She is also a board member of An-Nur Specialist Hospital, Bangi.
In January 2019, she was elected as the Chairperson of the Malaysian Women Coalition for Al Quds and Palestine, now serving as an honorary advisor. Her humanitarian efforts have been recognized with several awards, including the "Khaulah Al Azwar" award from the Chief Minister of Terengganu State, the 2017 Islamic NGO Leader Award (Ladies Category), and the "Glow Humanitarian Icon" by Global Leaders of Women Network (GLOW) in March 2024. In July 2024, an olive tree was planted in her name in the West Bank, Palestine, honoring her contributions to the Palestinian cause.
