Dr. Munawar's academic journey reflects his commitment to excellence in medical education. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2003. Demonstrating a dedication to his chosen specialty, he pursued postgraduate studies and obtained his Doctor in Emergency Medicine (DrEmMed) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2012. Currently, he is furthering his expertise by pursuing a PhD in Humanitarian and Conflict Response at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, underscoring his commitment to addressing global health challenges.
In his current role, Dr. Munawar serves as a Consultant Emergency Physician at the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) and as a Senior Medical Lecturer in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. This dual position allows him to combine his clinical expertise with academic responsibilities, contributing to both patient care and the education of future medical professionals. His commitment to medical education is further evidenced by his role as an Instructor for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, certified by the American Heart Association.
Dr. Munawar's career path has been marked by progressive responsibilities and leadership roles. He began his journey as a medical officer in various hospitals, including Selayang Hospital and Sungai Buloh Hospital, before joining UKM Medical Centre as a trainee lecturer in Emergency Medicine in 2007. His expertise and dedication led to his appointment as a Lecturer and Emergency Physician in 2012, and he has since risen to his current position as a Consultant and Senior Lecturer.
Beyond his primary roles, Dr. Munawar has taken on significant leadership positions that showcase his commitment to improving healthcare systems and emergency response. He served as the Pre-Hospital Care Services Chief Coordinator at UKM Medical Centre from 2012 to 2015 and was the Medical Coordinator for the Formula 1 Medical Standby and Referral Centre from 2008 to 2015. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he stepped up as the COVID Transit Bay Coordinator at HCTM, demonstrating his ability to adapt and lead in crisis situations.
Dr. Munawar's expertise extends beyond the hospital walls. He is actively involved in various professional and humanitarian organizations. Currently, he serves as the Vice-President of the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM) and is a member of the Board of Trustees for Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE). His role as a Shariah Advisory Board Panel Member for An-Nur Specialist Hospital highlights his commitment to integrating Islamic principles with modern medical practices.

He is currently leading several research projects, including studies on the WHO Emergency Medical Teams Global Classification Process, developing a clinical framework for end-of-life care in emergency settings, and investigating the prevalence of do-not-attempt-resuscitation orders among COVID-19 patients.
